Hard drive
The hard drive stores information. A hard drive is made up of: a platter, a spindle, an actuator, an actuator arm, a slider, a read write head, an electronic controller, an IDE connection and a power connection.
A platter is a circular magnetic disk which consists of 80 tracks and each track stores the same amount of data. The spindle secures the platter and turns the disk. The read/write head writes and reads information stored in the tracks.
The IDE connection plugs into the motherboard and sends information to the other components.
The actuator turns the actuator arm.
The read/write head is connected to the actuator arm.
The power connection is plugged into the
motherboard and provides electricity to the actuator, the actuator arm, the
spindle and the electronic controller.
